Bio

Stephen Lay grew up in southern Maryland, the youngest in a musical family of five.  Mom, a church organist, Dad a professional trumpeter in the Air Force Airmen of Note, Bart an outstanding drummer and Larry a pianist/singer/songwriter himself.  The confluence and influence of such talent, love and understanding helped mold Stephen into the versatile and sensitive musician he is today.

With a love for all styles and a deep understanding of the profound power that music has on peoples’ lives and their faith, Stephen strives for ease and beauty in all his musical endeavors.  This includes solo piano and singing, accompanying and ensemble/band, conducting and vocal coaching.  He has learned from and worked with some wonderful conductors, professors and coaches and performed with many talented people.  Stephen’s skills are put to use in the church, classical/choral and pop/contemporary worlds as well as recordings, published works and workshops.
